Daily Photos: My New Photo Blog

I’m writing today to let you know about yet another place to keep up with our family. Recently, I’ve started a new photo blog called Daily Photos (i.e. http://photos.michaelwender.com). For any of you who remember the “Picture of the Day” app that I used to have on the homepage of my personal site, the way this new site works will be familiar.

Introducing My First Commercial WordPress Theme
The site utilizes my soon to be released commercial WordPress theme called Pictography. It showcases a home page with a “featured image carousel”. This carousel lets you browse all featured images on the site without having to reload the page.

What’s more, since I’ll be releasing Pictography as a commercial theme, WordPress users will be able to purchase my theme, install it on their sites and make their sites look and function like my Daily Photos site. Plus, so that all Pictography sites won’t look the same, I’ve built a backend settings panel that lets users select their own colors, upload their logo and make other cosmetic changes while still retaining the overall functionality of the theme.

Seeing a Goal Come to Fruition
Pictography represents the culmination of a goal I’ve had for a couple years. That goal is to design, develop and release my own WordPress theme for consumers. I doubt I’ll get rich doing this, and that isn’t my aim. Rather, this project has allowed me to focus my own creativity into a professional product which may or may not meet the needs and wants of other WordPress bloggers. But, finding that out will be part of the fun.

I’ll keep you guys posted on Pictography’s reception in the WordPress theme market. In the meantime, my main reason for writing is simply to introduce you to our new Daily Photos blog. Visit the site, play with the “image carousel” on the homepage, and use the links in the main menu to subscribe for updates via RSS or daily emails.
